Merryvale Merlot

Sourced largely from vineyards located in the southern Napa Valley, the fruit was hand-picked and hand-sorted with each vineyard fermented separately. Temperatures peaked at 90°F during fermentation and the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine was aged 21 months in 100% French oak barrels (50% new). The wine was blended in spring of 2021 and bottled without fining or filtration the following June.

Tasting Notes:

This very dark ruby colored Merlot from Merryvale opens with a mild blackberry bouquet with a hint of cinnamon and coffee. It shows aromas of brambly blackberry and black currants along with vanilla, dark chocolate, baking spices and roasted sage. On the palate, this wine is medium to full bodied, nicely balanced, and smooth. The flavor profile is a tasty and appealing black raspberry with a touch of black pepper. The flavors echo the aromas with great focus and intensity in the mouthfeel. Some dark chocolate and gentle oak which added to the wine’s complexity. The finish is dry, and its moderate dusty oak tannins are nicely prolonged.

Food Pairing: Beef tenderloin roast and rosemary infused leg of lamb.

Blend: 97% Merlot, 1.5% Malbec, 1.5% Cabernet Sauvignon
