This third wine from Smith Haut Lafite, the Le Petit Haut Lafite, is in essence a second wine made from young plots of Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a nice attack with loads of black fruits, but narrows out in the mouth and finishes with slight austerity and a more compact style.

Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is crafted and aged in our energy-plus facilities with the same care as the estate’s Grand Vin. From the vineyard to the cellar, the entire winemaking process is exactly the same.

Dense deep dark purple color. Long legs with seductive tears. Nose of cream, vanilla, butterscotch, mocha chocolate, sweet pipe tobacco, and cedar notes.

Palate: silky sweet tannins, medium to full body, dark blackberry and loamy with a dry, structured mid palate of black cherries, currant and a subtle spice finish.

An amazingly complex wine. With the dry finish and solid tannins it seems this wine will develop in bottle and the fruit will mellow leaving an exquisite Bordeaux.

Potential for mid-term aging but drinks well now too.

Winemaking: Grapes are sorted twice, before and after destemming, and are not pressed before undergoing fermentation in vats. Tannins and color are extracted by punching down and/or pumping over.
