Cardenal Mendoza is one of the leading brands when it comes to Brandy de Jerez. Produced by bodegas Sánchez Romate, is was named after Pedro Gonzales de Mendoza, who was a cardinal and archbishop of Spain in the 15th century and a key political figure to lobby for Columbus’ first voyage to the Americas and the unification of Spain.
Originally produced in 1887 for the exclusive use of the Sanchez Romate family and close friends, Cardenal Mendoza Solera Gran Reserva is the classic Sherry Brandy, matured for an average of 15 years in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. It is still made the same way today.
Tasting Notes:
Its appearance is bright, transparent dark mahogany with copper glints.
On the nose it is clean, elegant and well-rounded with hints of the Sherry which seasoned the barrels.
On the palate it is beautifully balanced, warming and smooth while it has a very long finish where all the subtle nuances come together leaving a lasting impression of personality with hints of raisin and prune.
