In the glass, this single malt whisky from Islay is amber gold, with a Sherry nose that evolves into aromas of a caramel dessert, and subtle suggestions of oak and polished leather. The palate shows an indulgence of sweet berries and cream moving to roasted nuts and malt. It finishes soft and dry, with a delicate touch of sugar and spiced oak that lingers on the tongue. Made from fresh optic barley, which is lightly peated and mixed with pure spring water drawn from the Margadale River, this whisky is aged for twenty-five years in a combination of used Bourbon, Scotch and Oloroso Sherry casks. It is unchill-filtered and naturally colored, with a higher strength of 46.3%, and was awarded “Best Islay Single Malt” at the 2014 World Whiskies Awards.
