Initially spending 18 years in a combination of refill casks, this unique whisky has undergone a finishing period of around 4-5 months in First fill Pauillac wine casks, a rich and complex red wine from Bordeaux. This is an instantly different dram than a lot of Aberfeldy’s other releases. Malt Master, Stephanie MacLeod, carefully monitored maturation and flavor development in the casks until the desired flavor profile had been achieved. Pauillac is a robust wine, so the goal was to use this cask type to complement and elevate the signature character of Aberfeldy, not mask it.
To begin with the 18 has the lovely warmth and smoothness you would associate with an Aberfeldy whisky, but this continues with more soaked dark fruit flavors, like dates, redcurrants, and apricots. A dram to share and celebrate good times with, especially in front of a cozy open fire.
ABERFELDY's wonderfully soft signature honey and creamy vanilla notes are invigorated with swathes of plush ripe fruits and lovely nutty aromas to create an incredibly elegant and fruitful whisky.

Aberfeldy's 18-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was originally launched for the Travel Retail Market. Presented in a bottle designed to fit in with the rest of the Aberfeldy redesign, this stylish single malt is a creamy, easy-going treat for the palate. Brimming with familiar notes of vanilla, buttermilk pancakes and stewed fruits, as well as warming oak notes from the long maturation.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Plush ripe fruits and honey with lovely nutty aromas.

Color: Golden Burgundy. Palate: Wonderfully soft honey-drizzled blackberries invigorated with creamy vanilla notes.

Finish: An incredibly elegant and fruitful whisky. The nose is toasty and brooding, with notes of dark brown sugar and caramel-covered cookies emerging quickly.

The wine-driven fruit is more evident on the palate, which gives the body a berry-heavy, almost plummy element. The cereal notes stick around for some time, interplaying in an interesting fashion with the fruit, jumping back and forth and bringing out some notes of nougat and honeycomb. On the finish the wine elements kick back in again, with some tannic elements dimming the up-front fruitiness and drying things out.
