The Bottega Sambuca is made with the essence of star anise seeds giving it the distinct licorice flavor of sambucas. It is suggested served neat, on the rocks, with coffee or–we kid you not–“lit on fire.”
The 2012 Wine Enthusiast review found it similar to Hershey's Good &
Plenty licorice candy and recommended stirring into coffee.
Distilleria Bottega was founded in the 1970s and named for maste distiller Aldo Bottega whose son–Sandro Bottega–is today a noted race car driver, guitarist, and modern art aficionado (according to their website–it is good to be the son of a master distiller!).
