Similar to the 2002, yet with slightly more ripeness, the 2004 Clos des Truffiers started out slightly closed and backwards, yet opened up nicely over the evening. Blackcurrants, white truffle, olive paste and ground herb-like characteristics all show, and on the palate, it's full-bodied, beautifully fresh and lively, with solid mid-palate concentration and a great finish. In 2004, they changed their barrel supplier and also lowered the level of toast. Either way, oak never seems heavy-handed here, and even in the new releases, the oak elevage is beautifully integrated. Drink this 2004 anytime over the coming decade or so.
